Thank you for joining me!

Welcome to the Happy Grappler. The key to a consistent practice is joy. As an aging athlete, I continue to seek out methods that help to keep a smile on my face, relatively fit and pain free. This is my mental graffiti. Enjoy!

Sounds like....

Somebody's got a case of the Mondays...

*Sigh*

It is foggy, cold, rainy and dreary here in the Land of Lincoln, but that did not stop me from walking to the gym, going 4 miles slong (I read that on ultra runners blog and love that word) on the treadmill, walking home and really hammering the anterior hips for mobility work. But sometimes in spite of the conditions you have to put in the work. Steady layin' bricks yo.

Also, in more exciting news, I received Stephan Kesting and Emily Kwok's new DVD in the mail today and so far I have watched the drills and part of the gripfighting section. I love the conversational style of the dvd. The production quality is quite good and Stephan and Emily have good chemistry as colleagues and it shows. That being said, the partner drills portion is worth the cost of the series alone.

*I hate traditional jiujitsu warmups*

Please let me re-clarify that statement: I HATE TRADITIONAL JIUJITSU WARMUPS I HATE TRADITIONAL JIUJITSU WARMUP I HATE TRADITIONAL JIUJITSU WARMUPS I HATE TRADITIONAL JIUJITSU WARMUPS I HATE THEM I HATE THEM I HATE THEM I HATE THEM.

Whew! That's better.

I have never seen the value of pushups and squats and other stuff before training, sure, it raises body temperature, but that is about it. What Emily covers in the first DVD is functional, prime the CNS, prepare the mind for jiujitsu movement movement. I can't wait to break out some of these drills on my friday night class.

I have watched only a small portion of the gripfighting section, but it looks solid. I can't wait to watch more of this series and I will certainly share my opinion with you, but so far two thumbs up!

Train happy!

Oss.
